Magic Without Tigers
Hi all!
Sorry I've been away for so long. But there's lot's to talk about.
First off, thank you all for all of your congratulations on GS' awards and nominations. Since we spoke last, the film was nominated for:
-2 Independent Spirit Awards
-2 People's Choice Awards
-2 National Board of Review Awards
-1 Grammy Award for Best Soundtrack
and a Turtle Dove in a Pear Tree.
What the fuck is a Turtle Dove? I like the sound of it. My whole life, every time I hear that song (frankly a glorified "99 bottles of beer on the wall") all I can think of is a turtle with wings holding a twig in his mouth franticly searching for a spot for Noah to dock his ark.
I "edited" the story in the last post because I thought I sounded like an asshole. But I then I went ahead and told the story on "Ellen" today anyway. (It'll be on Thursday, 12/9) I also do an elaborate magic trick on the show that will leave you wondering if my middle name is Merlin... or Roy.
Okay, so you all figured out that the super, secret guest on Scrubs is Colin Farrell. What a cool guy. He is really friggin funny and always has to be so serious in all his movies. But on Scrubs he was hilarious. He's actually hosting SNL this week if you want to check him out.
Some of you have asked me if I read other sites. No. This is the only place I read comments and post replies on the net. If you see my name anywhere else, it isn't me. Although I must say that the guys who created www.zach-braff.com have done a really cool job. I have nothing to do with that site, so I can't vouch for it's content. But they've clearly put a lot of work into it, so check it out if you get a chance.
Those of you who've had a chance to read my brother Joshua's book will be pleased to know that he's got many a Hollywood producer calling him about turning it into a movie. I'm really happy for him; he is immensely talented.
I have received a single copy of the GS DVD. I was sitting with my brother last night showing him a bunch of deleted scenes that he had never seen. I think you guys are gonna like it. I did commentary over the deleted scenes as well, so you can hear why I ended up cutting individual scenes.
Okay, I am very tired and must crash soon. But I would never dare leave you without an awesome song of the week: Squeeze - "Is That Love".
Peace, love and thank you,
ZB

I forgot to add: a bunch of celebrities have contributed and it has a major publisher lined up (available nationwide in October). It's not some crackpot thing and I loved your movie, so only natural for me to solicit a submission from you.
Thanks much

zach.
i asked this before, but i thought i'd ask again since i'm near the top this time and have a better shot at you reading this before hundreds of other so here's the question again... garden state was originally titled "large's ark" and i was curious why you decided to change it or if it was even you who made that decision.
thanks, ian
ps: big fan of the movie whatever title you chose and also of scrubs. i have every episode captured to my pc... nerdy, i know, but whatever.
Posted by: Ian | Dec 8, 2004 8:48:09 PM
hi Zachary...do people call you that?...well, i am going to.
Gardenstate was amazing, and i am sure that you have heard that a million times, but it was refreshing and original, and made me cry one second and laugh the next. One of my favorite parts when this happened was the fireplace scene. It was a tearjerker!
Keep up that awesome work on scrubs...your gonna win those awards :)
Things to put on your to-do list...
1. Release Scrubs on DVD
2. Come to Canada...Manitoba is a great place in the winter ;)
3. Watch The O.C...you will be impressed
4. Make some more video posts, beacuse it makes people happy :)
But that is it for now
Have an great holiday season :)

Zach, wanted to say thanks for the show Scrubs. Myself and my other medical school classmates stop studying each week to gather round to watch the show. It's the highlight of my week, I wouldn't make it through those slow tuesdays without it. Makes me think there is hope for me yet. Besides I learn new medical stuff each week.... you see that, watching Scrubs makes you smarter!!!
Thanks for all the laughs.
P.S. Garden State is my newest favorite movie. Fantastic, simply fantastic. Such a powerful movie, and the soundtrack is amazing.
thanks

Hey!
Colin Farrell on the show was GREAT! I'm marrying him, but, he probably didn't mention me, it's on the down low hehe. We share that lovely Irish heritage. I tivo your show everyweek, cause I heard TIVO will help boost ratings, so even if i'm sitting there at that very second watching it, i still tivo it! and your movie's on my Christmas list about 10 times, cause people always ask to borrow movies from me, and I never get them back, so yah. Ya know, I work at applebees, and sometimes Eagles players come in, and, everybody flips, I don't care, I can't stand sport celebrities, I wish you'ed come in! I'd make a HUGE deal about that!
or you can even just phone in an order, cause, if you don't pick it up, we get to eat it and it's free!! Whoopie!!
your awesome! you make me laugh!!!!

keep on truckin' zach...
i will watch ellen tomorrow while i study for my econ exam.
you should listen to Neko Case... try "Furnace Room Lullaby". it's about a girl who kills her boyfriend and buries him in her basement, but find she doesn't feel as great about it as she thought she would... only the story sounds much better put to music.
happy december.

Farrel sounds like an atypical choice for Scrubs. Looking forward to it. Does he have his own Irish accent on, ir is it Americanized? Please God, let him play a drunk Irishman - oh, has to be somebody related to Dr.Cox!!! aaaaaaaHAHAHAHHA that should be super cool if true! :-D

Woooo thanks for the awesome song suggestion! I absolutely love you're taste in music and it helps me find bands that are otherwise pretty unknown. I think it's awesome you guys get so many high profile guests for Scrubs. Hell, even Friends didn't have this many well known guest stars until about the sixth or seventh season. Other cool people you should get: Johnny Depp, Will Ferrel, Vince Vaughn, Colin Firth, Orlando Bloom... just a few suggestions ;)

The GS soundtrack is everywhere! I myself have worn the cd out in my car, but it is literally everywhere. In my aerobics class the other day (no, it is not a Geriatrics class, college PE) the instructor played the soundtrack during our "cool down." Then shopping in Lacoste last week, they had it playing in the store. Good music everywhere is not a bad thing. Congrats on all your successes Zach.
Best,
Chelsea

Hey Zach,
So glad that you are back. I've been waiting for you to post! It's really sad....actually how many times I check the computer throughout the day to make sure you haven't posted. Congratulations on being nominated for the various awards for Garden State. Your film is truly wonderful. I noticed that someone had taken taken the story out of the last post a few days after I had first read it. You shouldn't have removed it! The old bag deserved it. Next time, she should actually watch the movies she is going to crap on.
P.S. you are so adorable

Yay for "Garden State" DVD and Colin Farrell and turtle doves. I wish that image came to my mind as well, but unfortunately that stupid movie "Home Alone 2" actually told me what they looked like for real. Just more evidence that Macaulay Culkin is a bastard.
