The Morning After
It's 5:28 pm. Good Morning. What a crazy night it was last night. The premiere went really well. And I didn't go to sleep till 5:00am. I had an important meeting I had to go to at 11:30am. So I went half-asleep, then drove home, packed up my family into their rent-a-car and crashed till now. The web guys are gonna put up a link to lots of cool pictures from last night; these ones in the blog don't really do it justice. At the party after the screening, the waiters and waitresses were wearing garbage bag parkas like we are in the poster. It was very funny and random and odd. But as someone who was recently a waiter, I kinda felt bad for them. I imagined them showing up at work that day and being like, "You want me to wear what?!"
All in all it was a really fun night. I'm off to Dallas in the morning for a screening at the Magnolia theater. So those of you in Dallas, come check it out. I'll be there to answer questions after. I've never been to Texas; I'm very excited. Then off to NYC. Next week I'm doing: Charlie Rose (with Natalie), David Letterman, Carson Daly, The Today Show, and Regis and Kelly. As you can see, I'm doing everything I can to get the word out there about the film's opening on the 28th. All of you who've been writing and telling me how much you're spreading the word, I really appreciate it. It makes such a difference. You're really participating in giving Garden State a shot at surviving amidst the summer behemoths.
I hope you're all having a magnificent wednesday wherever you are on planet Earth.

You are going to have to find a way on Conan O'Brien, I think him to be the greatest talk show host EVER.
Any trips to Canada in the future (not Toronto)?

BLAST this cursed bad luck!
I am from Dallas, Mr. Zach Braff, and attend school very close to the MAGNOLIA theater...and ironically am in LOS ANGELES now...Must you schedule a trip when I am stupidly working for the summer in LA! You're going to be at the screening!! HOGBALLS! Now I just want to melt my face with acid. Finally a cool screening in Dallas, and I'm not there. Poop.
-Nick
P.S. Dallas rocks, go to the Tea Room in Deep Ellum for cool people music.

Aye, you gotta get on Conan dude. He's second best to Dave. Way to steer clear of Leno, a wise move indeed. And Nick of Dallas now living in LA, please don't melt your face with acid. And hey who says we're on planet Earth anyway?

I don't think I've ever actually WANTED to be in Texas before, but I do now.
Any chance you'll be coming to Ohio? No? I didn't think so.

I've always loved you in Scrubs and, now come to find you're not just funny but a multi-talented writer, director, etc., etc., etc. And now I get to tell you directly on your blog!
You are cool!
I'm looking forward to seeing your movie. Any chance you'll come down to San Diego?

I AM IN DALLAS!!! How did I miss the receiving of screening tickets!!?! How do I get them!?!?
You'll have a GREAT Time at the Magnolia. If you get a chance to enjoy Dallas, check out the Candle Room, The Ole' Monk and Cubra Libre: they are all located on the Street known as
Knox-Henderson; this is South of the Magnolia Theater. These are pubs. Deep Ellum is fun, too, for live music. Have a great time!

Zach, my wife and I are huge Scrubs fan...it is on the top of our TiVo priority list! Last week we were at the Magnolia and saw a trailer for Garden State...we turned to one another and instantly knew we were excited to see it. We can't wait! How do we get tickets to come to the screening tomorrow in Dallas? Please, do tell! Bring cool clothes...Dallas is HOT right now.

And we really appreciate you.
For reals. I can tell my friends that I talk with Zach Braff everyday. Then they ask me who that is.. and I have to tell them "you know J.D the doctor from Scrubs." All the while walking away dis-owning them for not know who Zach Braff is. Jerks. That's it, thats all, thats all there is. Peace. Out.

Oh well - Westwood did not hold the premiere, it looks like Arclight? Premieres at Arclight don't let fans get too close.
I'm only kinda phychic, but I'm pretty damn sure that Garden State will do VERY good. If you think about it, the only real competition that weekend is The Village (which will also do very well), but, as I'm sure the planning people know, there is no other big movie (not even a medium movie) that is similar so far as cast and demographics go. You'll probably get a good showing the first weekend, and I bet it won't die at all for the 2nd and 3rd week at least. Hopefully it'll grow.
How many theatres is it showing in?
Since I don't know that yet, I'm going to make a very uneducated guess:
1st week: $20-25 million
2nd week: $20 million
3rd week: $15 million
Lets see if I'm right.

Man, that's great that you're going on all those talk shows, but next time around, YOU MUST GO ON CONAN!! Conan is tops, but I understand, you're getting a lot of real exposure with those other ones, Conan is on pretty late, but he's the best! Good luck in Dallas and NYC!

Enjoy your time in Dallas...(you have to come back and try and fit a Q & A in Los Angeles)
Cheers!

I'll be watching all your talk show appearances for sure. And yes, you should definitely try to make it to Conan. Your last appearance was great.

I cannot wait until Garden State comes to Boston. I have been telling anyone and everyone about this film. Ive got the Garden State soundtrack on my Ipod and its basically been going nonstop since I made the playlist. Zach great job

Hey Zach, congratulations on everything. Except, of course, for your utter failure to announce any plans to come to Austin. I expected better from you. Tsk, tsk.
Anyway, I've been waiting to see Garden State for months, and I've become absolutely addicted to Scrubs. Or maybe it was cocaine...no, no, Scrubs.
Seriously though, best wishes for Garden State, the new season of Scrubs, and all your other endeavors.

Two weeks! You couldn't wait two weeks? Like say the week of August 2nd, when I will be in Dallas, visiting family? Argh. I bet you're not even coming down to little old Houston, either.
But.
You are coming to Dallas. My beloved hometown. Man, I love Dallas.
You're also getting your first taste of Texas. Great place to be. Well, summer is kind of iffy as your chances of melting significantly increase. But hey, that's the interesting part - what exactly is your breaking point? What will push you over the edge and claim Texas and all its inhabitants crazy loons for suffering through the intolerable heat year after year?
There is one bright spot - less humidity in Dallas. On a really good day in Houston, the humidity gives the air this great sauna-like quality. Great for the pores, by the way.
This is truly ridiculous - I'm actually giddy you're going to be in Texas. I will sign off now, to save myself further embarrassment and continue my fangurl moment in the privacy of my own home.
Enjoy your stay.

I'm really excited to see you on all those shows! You know whats crazy? I have brothers named Zach and Josh and thats like you and your brother! Okay, its not really that crazy, but its still cool! Hopefully all goes well with you and the opening of Garden State and you can be sure that i'll be watching it with all my friends. Thanks for keeping us updated on everything, and try to come to Minnesota!!
Posted by: Amelia | Jul 21, 2004 8:29:01 PM
Why does Dallas have to be so close and yet so far... I agree with Brie, Houston deserves a screening too. Otherwise I won't be able to see it until the dvd.. Unless Brazil is a future option and that would be greatly appreciated. Now I must go watch the trailer again and then cry myself to sleep since I won't be able to see it. Good luck with everything Zach.

Happy to hear the Premiere was great. Way to go Zach. Have fun in Dallas and NYC -
Gonna be in NYC when the film opens, so I'm going to pay for it this time (anything to help the opening weekend numbers).
Saw the trailer when I went to see De-Lovely last night (a movie that pales in comparison to most others) and found myself applauding and laughing through the entire thing. Still the best movie I've seen all year...
