The big day is here. Garden State is open in NYC and LA. I'm rushing around doing all the press I can do to spread the word. Someone told me we're the number one movie being searched for on moviefone.com. That's pretty cool! I've read most of your comments from yesterday, but still have some more to get through. I promise I'll read them as soon as I can. Tonights the big NYC premiere. I'm in a car right now on my way to record commentary for the DVD with Nat. Today of all days!

Sorry so short. But I gotta run.

Since we haven't been in so long and we had a day off today from movie maddness, E and i decided to go see Garden State. It was slow at times but overall I really liked it alot. Mostly I [Read More]

i love you... in a non gay sort of way

hallo again zach!
you really shouldn't be so nervous, seeing as how your movie seems to be getting more and more hype as we speak seemingly! What do you anticipate for tonight's premiere? man, you never slow down! when will it all end?! i think it'll be interesting to read what you're doing months from now after the film is finished in theaters...(or maybe you'll just quit this thing by then, but hey, it's fun to think about right?) perhaps more time for interesting and obscure posts, eh? can't wait! we're all super stoked!

good luck with all. i'm so excited to see it!

Have fun with the commentary! I am the kind of nerd that loves those. I am so glad there will be one on the DVD. I hope you find time to relax and enjoy the film's success in the near future.

Good luck with your busy day Zach. I'm excited that you'll be doing commentary with Natalie, even though the DVD - as I can imagine - won't be out for some time. Ho hum.

I caught you on Letterman last night as well. I'm glad to finally know the story behind that outrageous shirt, at least now I have some closure.

It's really fantastic that GS is doing so well on the net, as with moviefone.com. You can count on of F.O.G.S. to spread the word, consider us your little foot soldiers. ;)

I remember when one of my best friends found me one day and made me watch the preview online because she was so excited about this movie...this was months ago. Not that this doesn't happen often, but it's not very often that I continue to look for updates on releases and continue to be excited...I have. She has. Several other friends of ours have. I figure that's pretty damn amazing, and there's no way the rest of the country isn't going to pick up on that same excitement any moment now. You'll do fine. Or better. Good luck, I can't wait!

as a transplanted new jersey-ite in houston, i'm wondering when/where this movie will come out. i'm all about supporting it here in houston, but i haven't a clue as to when it comes out. we are gathering a following, that's for sure... move over donnie darko...er...maybe not...totally different genre...nevermind...you get my point. cheers.

I hope the movie is a huge hit, even though I know it will be. I know that being a writer/director/ and actor must be hard, but your tough and can handle it. HAHA! Good luck with it and I hope you update the blog more often so we can see how things are with you. Thanks.

No worries! I saw the movie in Rockefeller Center during the drive-in movie thingy and fell in love (along with hundreds of other viewers!) By the way, I work at 56th and Madison, let me know the next time you are in the neighborhood- we can do lunch...

Good luck on the opening - I went to High School with Jim Parsons (Tim) and am eager to finally see one of my fellow drama geeks from KOHS on the big screen! Way to go, Jim!

Congrats on the big day and the HUGE success. Even the NYT is a Jersey fan now!

Read about the Comedy Central/declareyourself.com PSAs and actually viewed some on the Web site. I think it's great you're helping promote voter reg (on top of everything else you having going right now) and hope you continue to get out the word this fall...not enough people realize how easy it is to VOTE and get their voice heard in this country. My shameless plug (again): www.declareyourself.com.

And I don't know why you'd ever quit your day job, but if you did, I think you'd make an excellent snake handler!

Wonderful for them. Can't wait for it it open in Vancouver (Canada, that is).

Interesting last night on Letterman, though I'm not much a fan fo the show. You mentioned the blog :p You seemed a bit uncomfortable.

I was just wondering if anyones's mentioned the Garden State Livejournal community?

I can't wait to see this movie! I wish it was opening in orange county...as much as i hate LA, i'm still willing to venture out that way to see GS!

DAMN STRAIGHT YOU GOTTA RUN! run like the wind!

i'm so excited for you and the movie doesn't even open in toronto for another century! why? WHY?

Posted by: carol | Jul 28, 2004 10:51:52 AM

i'm just looking through a bunch of independent movies because i haven't found any good movies lately and i'm bored outa my mind i think this movie looks good though , i mean i'd pay to see and thats a lot (well for me anyway) i mean i don't really have that much cash and things aren't exactly cheap so i'd scrape together some money hitch a ride to the theatre and prolly go home and cry myself to sleep after

good luck with the premiere! i hope it does well... too bad i don't live near nyc or la.
but i'll catch it when it comes out here!

YAY! I'll be making a special journey into the city to watch your movie, Zach. Judging from the trailers and your website...I think it's going to do really well because you've struck such a chord in our generation. I think everyone feels a little detached from what's going on and wants to feel alive again. I can't wait to see it, though. Plans to see it with others fell through, but I'm still going solo. I just had to see it before I let any more time pass.

Kudos to you!

Hey Zach,
Can't wait for the movie to be released in the D.C. area. The moviephone thing is pretty awesome.
Anyway, Such Great Heights is by the Postal Service, right? I ask because I think Amazon has an error in which the list in on the soundtrack as being by Iron and Wine. :-/.

ps-- congrats!!

We're excited in Memphis and hopeful that Garden State will show here! I've been waiting a long time to see it and the music is AMAZING. A+ job so far.

Posted by: Juliet | Jul 28, 2004 11:01:17 AM

Zach, there is no doubt in any of our minds about the success of your film-but, good luck anyway...hope you only revel in this excitement and not become burned out by it!

Posted by: Kate | Jul 28, 2004 11:02:47 AM

Hey Zach..can't wait to see the movie, blah blah blah. I've been eager to see it ever since I read the info on imdb.com when it was still in pre-production. It just sucks that I won't be able to see it until August 20 (that's when it comes out in San Antonio)...unless I want to go to Dallas or Houston to see it, which I don't because Dallas smells and Houstonians can't drive for sh*t. You should do a Q&A thingy here in San Antonio. Just a suggestion. Anyway, I gotta go. I have to order a cat stroller from the Skymall magazine.

P.S. I dig the David Duchovny-esque look you've been strutting around with as of late.
