Warning: Not Funny!

Yes it's true. I got Punk'd bad. I've been meaning to write about it for sometime, but I wasn't allowed to talk about it until it aired. It was a very disturbing sight to see my brand new car covered in graffiti. I'm pretty sure I'd do the exact same thing again. For those of you that don't understand, maybe it's a Jersey thing or something. I don't have too many alpha male qualities (I went to theater camp for God's sake) but growing up in Jersey, me and my buddies always loved cars. Hurting a nice one is sacrilegious. All I can think about now is plotting my revenge on Donald Faison. It consumes me. Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night just to jot down good ideas. I'm open to any and all suggestions.

In other news, I'm once again directing Gavin DeGraw's video for the song "Chariot". If you don't know it, check it out. I think he's a real talent and someone who's gonna be around for a long time. We're shooting next tuesday in LA and it's gonna be really cool. The whole video is one long continuos shot as Gavin and a girl navigate through this crazy set that's constantly changing. It's my first time doing a real video. I did one for the Scrubs theme song, but it wasn't a real video with an actual budget.

Getting ready to shoot "Last Kiss" in Montreal this spring. I hear that it's an amazing city and I'm looking forward to spending sometime outside of LA. The script is really good and we're starting to fill out the rest of the cast. Michael Weston, who played Kenny the Cop in Garden State, got one of the male leads in the movie.

I think the Arrested Development I did airs on 4/10. That show is so friggin funny! I don't know if any of you saw this weeks, but I laughed out loud a lot. Enjoy it now, because who knows how long that amazing show will be around for.

As far as the Fletch rumors, that was news to me. I'm a huge Fletch fan and a huge Kevin Smith fan, so maybe when the time comes he'll really want me and I'l be available to do it. We're winding down at Scrubs. Only 3 more episodes to shoot for the season.

I'm exhausted. Sorry if I'm not that funny tonight, I just got home from work and I felt like I was long overdue to post. But I must go to sleep now.
Also remember, anyone saying they're me anywhere else on the web (myspace, friendster, chat rooms, message boards) is not me. This is the only place I write.
Thank you guys so much for continuing to respond to my posts.

Awesome song of the week: Lori McKenna -- "Stealing Kisses" Also check out her cover of Radiohead's "Fake Plastic Trees".

Peace and Love,
ZB

I watched Punk'd just to see you. I laughed and laughed until there was no laughter yet. You're pretty much the greatest person ever.

Posted by: Wendy | Mar 21, 2005 11:06:51 PM

I would also like to point out that I commented second. Never before, and probably never again will that happen, so this is a great day.

Posted by: Wendy | Mar 21, 2005 11:08:35 PM

yup, you're definitely the greatest person ever.

sorry i didnt say more but i had to be the first to post cause usually im like number one thousand. its sad how excited i got about that. dammit i have a job now and therefore and go to school (majoring in film thank you very much) so i didnt get to see you on punked. but what the hell did you do.i bought the kaene ( however the fuck you spell it) cd it was great. and ive been listining to wild horses by the rollingstones which you should put up as an awesome song too. and hey where do you here of all these unknown artists do you know all of them or people that know them? anyways im working on my first script so wish me look. sorry im not funny right now either cause i just got off of work too. im a cashier at walmart. 7.80 an hour oh yeah im making the big money now. i hate it. i call it the death trap to hell. cause everytime im there it reminds me that if i dont succeed in acting writing directing and with my band ( yes im starting a band cause i sing) that i could end up in walmart forever and that scares the shit out of me. dude when are you coming to vegas or your amazingly cute and talented friend josh radin. i live in las vegas and you should party here when youre not workin your ass off okay. anways lots of love and warm hugs from one nizzle to another. love andrea zavala

Punk'd is still on the air? Who knew? But congratulations. Nothing like getting humiliated by Lord of the Prance in front of everyone who has basic cable.

wow. love scrubs. bye.

Posted by: essie | Mar 21, 2005 11:15:39 PM

Good to hear from you again, haha.. i guess you know you've made it when you get punk'd. i havent seen the episode yet but i heard from a friend that it was hilarious, sorry i realize it's at your expense. i also have the sneaking suspicion that arrested development won't make it till next season, like another beloved show of mine, Freaks and Geeks, but i hope it does. at least scrubs is on the air, i couldnt live without that show. but anyway cant wait to see you in "last kiss" no idea what it's about but... that doesnt matter really. k, peace and much love.

Nice to see your bad evil side :). I was kinda shocked at your reaction, but that went away in a millisecond.

If i had a porsche and some kid would go all grafitti on it, i'dd probably knock his teeth out first and then ask questions later.

As always, it is such fun to hear from you in this forum. Keep up all the great work...and if you ever need a PA on set, my schedule would be completely open to work with you.

marshmellows stick to cars easily with a little bit of water and once they dry if you try to pull them off a windshiel the bottom half stays on. Not seriously evil but perhaps the beginning of a series of pranks.

Posted by: Krista | Mar 21, 2005 11:19:52 PM

honestly. I have nothing to say. but there were so few comments. how could I not? you're very cool. I wish I had your music knowledge. my idol. :) okay. bye.

i have a great song for all those who choose to search for it. it's a single called "mass destruction", by the group "faithless". they've been around for years, but mainly underground. if you like this, check out "kenna" and his cd "new sacred cow"... what an amazing artist. zach, i think you'll dig him like a shovel. enjoy - leanie

Weeeeeeeeeeeeee! Only a few posts in this time! My first time near the top....heh... ;-)

Hiya Zach!

No, no, no, noooooo.....you were supposed to come to TORONTO...not stinky, ol' Montreal.

Sheeeeeeeeesh.

Just kidding. Montreal is great! It's been 12 years since I've been there, though. Geeze, I guess I'm a little overdue for a visit...when're ya shootin' again? Looking for any extras - I have experience! Har!

I've slowly been getting into Arrested Development...it's growing on me....wasn't an immediate score like Scrubs was. Looking forward to your guest spot, tho! But only 3 more new episodes of Scrubs this season? Augh! What happened to the good ol' days of hundreds of episodes of a sitcom per year while the actors got little pay and the quality of episodes didn't matter so much as long as they kept pumpin' em out? HA!

That sucks you got Punk'D. I dunno about that whole concet. Sure, I like to joke around with friends and a good prank can be funny as hell...but that stuff is borderline sociopathic. What is UP with Ashton Kutcher? And George Clooney and Mel Gibson...they do that stuff too. Why the need to continually freak people out to such an extreme? What kind of power trip is that?

Maybe I'm just tired and cranky...I've got stuffed sinuses. Bleh.

Anyhooooooooo...I hope you're taking good care of yourself while you're doing all this great stuff!

Hugs and kisses,
Vanessa :-)

ahhhhh man you yelling at that "5 yr old kid" for spray painting your car was hilarious. that kid is so good. did you see him when he drove away in that black escalade? i wonder if he's Ryan Pinkston's little brother.

anyways, good luck with getting back at donald. but, man, he got you pretty good.

maybe you should trick him into thinking you're gay and that you've secretly had a thang for him since the first time u 2 met. eh. that prob won't work ...
but

good luck anyways. =)

You shoulda hit that kid! I probably would have if anyone violated my new car. But it was hilarious seeing your reaction. I rarely watch Punk'd, but when someone told me you were on it I had to tune in. As for getting back Donald...good luck...I'm sure he's expecting whatever horrible punishment you can think of.

Posted by: holiestofcows | Mar 21, 2005 11:30:00 PM

Aw poo...right near the top and I made a typo!

concept, not concet.

And now that I've read the few comments about the show...I wanna see it too...even if Ashton is a sociopath. HA!

All right..time to take my stuffed up head to bed.

Cheers.

Hi, I guess its an awakward email. I think. I have never written a letter such as this one, so I can honestly say, I have no idea how. I am advent watcher of series but I sadly can't watch it this year for I am studying to get my Master's degree in Israel and we don't get Scrubs. (Most likely several years down the line, when I finally return back to tHe USA the show will arrive here.) . But getting back to a point, (sorry I have a tremendously bad tendency to send long email, phone mesagesI watched for the first time your Movie. I cried, (I should probbly explain I am a highly emotional person, you know the one that cries at certain Hallmark commercials and TV specials) and I guess you must hear this plenty of times and one more I guess won't hurt, but I really loved your movie.I felt i understood the feeling, I came home during the break. I felt I was living the same feelings. Almost that so much has changed but hasn't and yet home isn't totally home anymore. I guess its more realistic point of view of the twenty-something years. So it was nice to watch a movie that I liked and reminded me of home even if I am 6000 miles away. I guess thanks, its nice to watch a movie that its little more realistic and deals with real emotions and quirky people that are who are not perfect far from it and trying to find oneselves. As for the Punk'd show, I hope it eventually gets to Israel, its aww!! frustrating I have to wait, hopefully I can catch a rerun in the summer when I go home on MTV. Well bye for now.

Posted by: anat | Mar 21, 2005 11:31:39 PM

Yeah, didn't know Punk'd was still on the air. Sorry to hear about your car. I hope they cleaned it all up, the little brats. I can't wait to see the new Gavin D. video! He has such an interesting voice. I helped my husband film a brief clip today for his creative writing class. Wanna be animators trying to act. Needless to say, hilarity ensued. Thought you might enjoy a reminder of how much even ridiculously bad "film-making" can improve a person's day. Thank goodness I can pop in GS for a nice reminder that there is talent in the world. Well, it's getting late if the cat bugging me is any indication. I'm flying to SF for a negotiation competition on the 1st and have to get up early tomorrow to look up some more relevant statutes and case law. Yeah, think about that next time you're bored ;). Have a good one.

Zach, we've missed you. Thanks for returning to the blog and remembering your fans.

We know you're a busy man though -- so hang in there and remember to take care of yourself. A little matza ball soup always does a good job if it!

Peace and lots of love,

I just paid an arm and a leg for Pit tickets to see System of a Down. I thought I'd mention it to you since their music makes me feel like your film makes me feel.

Even though I don't normally listen to music as heavy as SOAD, something about them touches me deep inside. There's an inherent art to the composition of both SOAD's music and your film-making.

I love it!

Keep inspiring us...the world is hungry for epic works.

I have to say that this was by far the best punk'd i've seen in a while. Totally understandable reaction...I would freak if anyone touched my car.

This season of Scrubs is fantastic! It brightens my whole week to be able to watch the show after being constantly busy with classes at UCSB.

Thanks so much for continuing to post! I love the song recommendations too. Keep up the awesome work, I'm looking forward to your next project! :)

Hey, Zach. Can't wait to see you on "Punk'd" (unless it already aired). Also can't wait to see you on "Arrested Development." Have fun in Montreal. I also hear it's an amazing city.

Posted by: Diana | Mar 21, 2005 11:39:08 PM

Missed you getting punk'd, but I don't blame you if you were ready to bust some ass. My car is a piece of shit and I hold its value in high regards...it's my passport to freedom. Zach, when you were in your early twenties, did you feel like you knew what you should do, but just didn't feel like it would bring you fulfillment. I'm 23 and on the verge of graduating with a computer engineering degree. I have a great job lined up, an amazing girlfriend, great friends, and what I am told is a good size. I can't help shaking this feeling that I just want to bust of this desert and start over somewhere. Take the biggest chance I've ever taken in my life and seeing where it leads me. Didn't hear about the Fletch rumors, but you are the ONLY person that has been mentioned other than Jason Lee that I would accept in the role. You rock brotha and I'm looking forward to Garden State 2: Revenge of the Lithium!

Posted by: Mario aka The Dome | Mar 21, 2005 11:42:54 PM

Hi again!
I understand your Punk'd experience! There is no way I would have been so calm over an icnident like that if it had been my Porsche 911! It is an unbelievable car! You handled the situation with great dignity! You continued to smile all the way throughout! Overall, I hope you understand how much you have done for our generation and those to come. If I can be inspired by your film, I don't know how it won't inspire others!
Liz

Posted by: annelise | Mar 21, 2005 11:48:30 PM

i'm so glad you've posted again. I was wondering when that AD airs, one of my friends was an extra on your episode-- i really hope they renew the show. along with a few more seasons of scrubs. then i'll be happy about keeping my tv. i'm going to have to venture over to MTV next time punk'd is on and look for you. lord knows they replay their shows to death.

i just found out one of my friends died a few minutes ago. Garden State has been such a wonderful part of my life that i came here looking for something other than tears, and have found some sort of lightness, so thanks for that. i'm going to stop writing and talking and reading and watching for awhile and just think. I think that will be better.

All the best to you.

Speaking of Scrubs winding down for the season, how much longer are you planning on doing the show? I'd heard season 5 would be your last? Hope not, because I love Scrubs (and Arrested Development, COME ON!)

I would just like to say, I love you. LOL. Thats it now I can go to bed and rest in peace. I love you.

Zach, if you have time, check out Dave Gorman's show when he's in L.A. The guy travelled the world meeting people who he found Googlewacking. No kidding it's a great stage show and original too. http://www.davegorman.com/googlewhack.htm

Hi, everybody. It´s me again. Tim from Germany.
Zach thank you so much. I finally saw the movie. I bought the DVD on a recent trip to NY and after they decided to skip the movies' release date over here for two more month I decided to watch it on DVD first. And after all that huge expectations I had I still have to say that I really love it. And for me that means your movie is one of those few which could pull that off! Also bought the Soundtrack and I can´t stop listening to the Shins. I really hope that someday I´ll have the possibility to see them live on stage. That be so cool.
I´m really happy work is so well for you at the moment. Good luck!
Write you soon.

Posted by: Anna | Mar 22, 2005 12:21:19 AM

I heard you were an ass, and after that punk'd episode, I am starting to believe it! Hey, as long as you are true to who you really are, I won't complain....

Posted by: Andrea | Mar 22, 2005 12:22:55 AM

Whoo! My post is actually in the 40s! I'd given up hope that I'd be anything other than just another 2000-er. So, Mr. Zach Braff, I just saw your movie for the first time last week. As I was halfway through (the first time) I said-"well, here's my new favorite movie!" I'm really impressed. You have depth and you're not afraid to show it. So thanks, I guess, for making the movie! Isn't it cool, knowing how many people you've affected? Yeah, your little movie is getting out there and making people feel like, "wow... (fill in the blanks)". K, well, enough said. Oh, and the next time you post, how about if you direct a comment at me, so I know you're actually reading? Please?! ::bats eyelashes:: Come on!! Just a short one will do! Thanks, you're the best, really.
Love, a fan

Posted by: Rachelle | Mar 22, 2005 12:23:32 AM

That was the best Punk'd ever. I seriously was fearing for that kid's life there for a second. I definitely won't be fucking with your car...

Posted by: Elizabeth from CA | Mar 22, 2005 12:23:51 AM

To get Donald back you should get the script for the final episode and edit out all his lines so he has like 3 words all episode and watch him complain to everyone around. or get the guy in charged ( Bill Lawrence) to say they are phasing out his character.

Posted by: Almost_famous | Mar 22, 2005 12:37:10 AM

You had me rolling on Punk'd. Sorry, but that was spectacular!
Anyway. Thanks for the update, and good luck getting him back. :)

Posted by: Renda | Mar 22, 2005 12:39:44 AM

I just posted I dont think it worked. I just mention that to get Donald back you should get a script for an upcoming episode and edit out all his lines so he complains to everyone there, or get the head honch ( bill Lawrence) to have a meeting with him to let him know they are phasing out his character.

Posted by: almost_famous | Mar 22, 2005 12:40:22 AM

I don't have cable, so I did not see Punk'd.

However I am sure it would be crappy to come out and see someone had tagged your car, I would be wicked pissed.

You should try to get back at Donald Faison by doing something involving the "impossible sit-up" but, I don't know if they can show that on TV.

Kudos on doing your first budgeted music video, you are right about Gavin DeGraw, his CD is really good.

Well keep up the good work.

Zach, I love you, but man...

seeing you yell at that pissant

made me fear you deep inside.

It's that much scarier seeing

someone yell when you totally

don't expect it. I watched Punk'd

just for you. I still think

you're awesome because I probably

would react the same way. Make

sure you keep an eye on that car

of yours. Tell Donald he's got

cancer... psych. I kid. Cancer's

not funny. ...

Posted by: Vanessa Choi | Mar 22, 2005 12:45:28 AM

Hey Zach =)

Man, I can't wait till that episode of Punk'd airs over here in retarded old NZ that takes ages to play stuff, grrr! I'm sure you were very restrained considering the fact that u thought your car was in jeopardy (I can't really relate, cars aren't my thing but the equivalent for me would probably be all my cds and dvds - they'd have to hold me back =Þ) Man, times like this I wish I lived in the US, LA in particular ;)

I've just been getting into Josh Radin, he's now officially on my birthday wish list (21, woohoo!) I love the song Winter, the first line especially. I feel like that totally sums up my life at the moment - I should know who I am by now, but somehow I still don't have much of a clue. You're lucky to be friends with him, he seems like he'd be a great guy, and he's sure as hell lucky to be friends with you =) *jealous*

I also LOVE Gavin DeGraw, I think he's totally going to be around for a long time, he actually seems to have a great degree of musicianship and skill (like John Mayer) as opposed to some of the other people out there who just have great song writers behind them. I'm sure you'll do a fantastic job, I might even have to start watching the music channel over here (even though u usually have to sit through an hour of crap to find one decent song), but they only just released Follow Through over here so Chariot probably won't be out here for a while. From the album, my favourite songs are Just Friends, More than Anyone and Belief.

You know what, how much would it cost for me to hire you to go round with me all the time as my little genie? General duties would include: making everyone jealous, recommending really cool music & making me laugh (you wouldn't have to try that hard at either of those things), although the downside is you would have to sit through some of my boring-ass tutorials and get up at 6am on tuesdays. The upside is that you could be like I Dream of Jeannie, and we could get you your own little lamp and decorate it with one of those circular sofas and some nice throw pillows...sounds good huh? =) Lemme know, we'll talk numbers. Oh and by the way love-slave duties might be included in the fine print also.

A couple of ideas for getting Donald back:
- empty a few dozen bottle of food colouring and bubble bath into his pool - not a new idea but you'd be surprised how long it takes for bubble bath to wear off, even after the pools been drained and cleaned.
- the marshmallow idea already suggested, especially if u spell something out with the marhsmallows, like "I LOVE NICK LACHEY" - what could be more embarrassing?!
- use permanent dyes to paint little spots like a rash on him while he's sleeping, that way he'll think he's got some kind of exotic disease - it's psychological ones that stay with u =)
- take the Buddhist approach and be content in the knowledge that karma will catch upto him...but that doesn't sound as fun huh =)

Anyway hun, much love as usual, don't feel u have to be funny to post, we love just hearing what you're upto.

Hugs and kisses,

Juls XX

Angry Zach is sexy too.

Hey Zach

Good sleep?

Just wanted to say how excited I am that you're directing Gavin's new video! I have been obsessed with his album for well over a year now, and weirdly enough tonight I am going to see him play live in a tiny little club in London. Am sure your vision will do the song justice. Have fun fliming it.

Hope all is well. And if you get a chance, listen to Tegan and Sara 'You wouldn't like me'...great song.

i never watch mtv, but now i wanna see punk'd just to see you. if someone graffitied my new car....or even my old car... it would not be pretty. and i'm from jersey too. and it's 4 am, and i'm listening to my drunken 18-year-old brother who NEVER talks to me via AIM, and i feeel like i can't sign off because this may never happen again. he recently accidentally cut off the tip of one of his fingers, and he can't stop talking about it. also, i adore you. don't be dating mandy moore. i'm sure she's lovely, but you should date me instead. i'm a year older than her and i'm a jersey girl! i'm sounding like a COMPLETE asshole, i apologize. i wish i could help you get back at donald faison, but i'm in no condition to think right now. good luck.

HA!!

I just got done watching you get Punk'd and decided, doo tee doo, i'll check LJ and BOOM! You updated, so I'm really happy right now! I'll be in like.. the first hundreds or something. I totally would of punched that damn kid in the face. Cars are like the magical crystals unicorns give birth to, especially the ones that cost 100 grand! So, I'm glad you cursed at him and almost made him piss his pants. By the way, did that stuff come off alright?

Okay, down to business. I haven't had long enough to think about it but here we go: Buy some nair and put it in his underwear! His head won't be the only bald spot on his body! Hahaha. Well, his other... head. OKay, that's enough. HAVE AN AWESOME DAY!! and if no one's said this to you today, I love you and you're a special boy.

Hey Zach,

Speaking of Radiohead covers by females, check out Sarah Slean's "Climbing Up the Walls" if you have the chance. I'll be sure to check out the songs you recommended, as your recommendations usually fall within music I would like to see.

Actually, since I'm recommending things and you may actually notice this because it's high up on the page, you should check out Jeremy Fischer, too. I had the opportunity to see him open up for Sarah Slean tonight, and he really is rather good. He has a couple CD's, I think... travels around North America on his bicycle while playing shows, which is really cool if you ask me.

Looking forward to your AD episode!

So exciting! Arrested Development!! I barely started watching, but it's so hilarious. Can't wait to see your episode.

Posted by: Sandy | Mar 22, 2005 12:51:24 AM

Cool, you posted again! I'm really pleased, right now I'm meant to be working on an assignment, so cheers for the distraction! Media Analysis, if you're interested...I'm not, but it's a core paper here at the University of Auckland!
I just think you're really cool man, I think everyone can do with being told they're cool, don't know about America but here in New Zealand people are quite repressed and don't give compliments out much. I know I love getting them, so karma...let the cool people know they're cool, and others will let you know if you are!

Ok...back to Media Analysis...any deep filmmaker thoughts on discourse in news media? :)

I wish I could have seen you on Punk'd. That would have made my day! Maybe when it reruns... but I never really watch Punk'd so I doubt I'd catch it the second time around either...

I watched Arrested Development for only the second time, and I really loved it! I think it's time that I add that to my television watching list. It's not incredibly long... just Scrubs and House (which is unfortunate since they're on at the same time, but I've been working it out so far) and sometimes old episodes of Malcolm in the Middle and That 70s Show. But mostly I just watch my Futurama and Family Guy DVDs... almost round the clock, I'm not always actually watching it but it's always on in case I need something to watch...

And I can't wait for SCRUBS to come out on DVD so that I can add that to the list too! I can't really imagine using Scrubs just as background noise, cuz I have a rule... I won't watch anything I love as background noise because it messes with how you see it. I can't use Garden State or Shawn of the Dead as background noise (yeah those two movies have nothing to do with each other, but anyway)...

And I'm babbling on and on, mostly because I'm finally one of the earlier posts and I'm excited about the idea that you, Zach, may actually get to read this one since usually I'm up in the thousands.

Zach, I'd like to invite you to my wedding, just as a guest... shouldn't be until 2007, but you seem like a fun guy so we'd love to have you there!

Of course, I know what the response most likely is... but you can't hate a woman for trying to make that day amazing. If you're at all interested in visiting us in the midwest, just send me an email.

Okay, I'm done babbling now. Sorry Zach (and everyone else who's trudging through this).

"A girl died in 1933 by a homicidal murderer. He buried her in the ground when she was still alive. The murdered chanted, "Toma sota balcu" as he buried her. Now that you have read the chant, you will meet this little girl. In the middle of the night she will be on your ceiling. She will suffocate you like she was suffocated. If you post this, she will not bother you. Your kindness will be rewarded."

Montréal is a wonderful city. I lived about 3 hours south in N.Y for almost 18 years before heading off to college. I just remember turning 18 and a bunch of us headed north to Montréal to buy beer, since it's legal there.

Be sure to spend as much time as possible in old town Montreal. It reminds me of Paris, but a bit cleaner and less pretentious. All of the great architecture, cathedrals and museums, less the hobo's who pee on the sidewalks..:)

It also has an interesting international music scene. You haven't lived until you've partied in the red light and heard The Cure's "Just Like Heaven" in French..:)

Anyways, have a wonderful time shooting the movie. Michael Weston is a great actor, his part on Six Feet Under just embodied evil, and yet, you still wanted to save him.

Gavin Degraw is amazing, as is Cary Brothers, who I saw (only briefly) at The Roxy last weekend. He opened for Nellie McKay. You should check out her stuff, she is great.

Well, thanks for the post. Maybe I’ll see you around L.A…as if that even really happens.

montreal is a fantastic city, for sure. make sure you eat les moules frites at least once while you're there! you don't get the full french-canadian experience unless you eat that (and poutine, of course) and get cursed at by an old french man driving a dented peugeot. it'll make your month, believe!

Call him incessantly, send him a thousand emails and texts, send him poetry and flowers, skywrite his name in the clouds even and then tell him that you're not over you ex and that you shouldn't be dating anybody...

oh wait, that's my Punk'd life

lol

p.s. YOU got Punk'd? Well, I suppose I'll see it in two years when UK shows catch up and all that...

Hi,

I heard that NBC may extend their episode order to 25 to accomodate the early start for this season. If so, congrats! At a time when so much of TV is filled with garbage reality shows like Punk'd, Scrubs is one of the few shows which reminds you how great TV can be.

Another of those beacons of brilliance is Arrested Development. It's so sad that such a brilliant show may only last two seasons. How funny was David Cross's Mrs. Doubtfire/Mary Poppin's impression?

Here's my attempt to refer a small-time musician to you and who ever else may read this: Ari Hest. His cover of Radiohead's "No Surprises" is beautiful.

Cheers,

Geoffrey

P.S. Don't worry, no one watches Punk'd anymore. I'd bet the vast majority of people who watched it were your loyal fans who'll support you no matter how close you come to punching a little hooligan.

P.P.S. What do you prefer a BlackBerry, a laptop, or a desktop computer?

P.P.P.S. Less that two weeks till Opening Day 2005 for baseball!

It's so sad

Posted by: Geoffrey | Mar 22, 2005 1:25:14 AM

it will be a sad day when arrested development gets cancelled... probably not too far off, however... for some reason it's just not catching on. anyway, nice to know the dude on myspace is a fake, i'm such a sucker for that crap *blushes in pitiful embarrassment*

Posted by: kelyn | Mar 22, 2005 1:32:06 AM

big hugs for you Mr Braff.
Also I don't think getting your car graffittied is funny at all. I am not a motorhead but am reasonably poor so being able to buy a car in the first place makes it a thing of pride and joy. not a blank canvas.
I wish scrubs showed in Australia on some vague semi regular basis... or that you could at least BUY the season. I mean, really, I already own all the buffy and angel available it is really time to get all the scrubs...and arrested development.
have you seen black books/coupling or spaced? british shows and very amusing.
well shiny thoughts for you and may reality tv die SOON so more intelligent and creative shows like the ones mentioned can thrive.

It's a shame that I'm here in the Netherlands, following you around a little online, keeping an eye on what you're doing and hearing about all these shows that don't get aired here (or not until about a year after they air in the States).

But there'll be a time when I move to the States (and ask you to look into the movie script I'm making and will have finished by then). At least by then I'll be -there- and able to check out all this stuff you write about.

For now, I just wish you good luck with chasing your dreams, and hopefully we'll meet some day (hey, my dream is that you'll direct my artsy movie, you chase your dreams, I chase mine ;))

Posted by: Faruk Ates | Mar 22, 2005 2:06:01 AM

Dam it, we don't get Punk'd in Australia anymore :( You won't mind me doing something illegal and downloading it, do you?

And have fun with all your projects that are coming up, making a music video sounds really fun, especially if it's for a music act you like.

Hope you get plenty of rest and tons of love from me, loyal Australian (well, Chinese, actually) fan, Asha :)

Posted by: Asha | Mar 22, 2005 2:07:18 AM

I have to say I've never liked punk'd, but I've never like 'You've been framed' concept as tormenting people IMHO ain't funny. But I watched your clip on the intorweb and have to say I was at least humoured that your response was so like mine when something shitty happens to me. I know anger followed by sarcasm is probably quite common, but it's definitely what I do. Besides, a man, or woman's car is sacred! Admittedly if someone graffitied mine I'd probably use it as an excuse to paint golden hippy-flowers on it, but if it had actually cost more than £300 I'd be much less quixotic and much more riddled with thoughts of vengeance!

1) Haha, you got punk'd. That sucks. Ahh, useless pranks... so fun.

2) Arrested Development: one of the few shows that makes me regret not having a tv in my dorm room.

3) So it's 4am and I'm still working on a storyboard for my Mass Comm presentation in about seven hours, and the only thing keeping me awake right now is The Shins. I know I'd heard them before, but it wasn't until I heard them in Garden State that I felt compelled to go get their CDs. Thank you for having good taste in music.

4) Song you should hear if you haven't already: "Be Still My Heart" by The Postal Service.

5) Q: What's a pirate's favorite month?
A: MAAAAARRRRRRRCH.

2 Good luck directing Gavin DeGraw's new video, can't wait to see it!

3 You're going to love Montreal. I went last August and I'm going again this summer. Believe what you hear, it is an absolutely amazing city!

4 Arrested Development is one of the funniest shows on television right now. I envy you for getting to be a part of it >:O

5 Gah, I sure do love Scrubs.

6 We have similar taste in music, I think you should check out the band Kings of Convenience. They are wonderful.

7 I think my city is about to be hit by a tornado.

Hey Zach, I just found this blog recently and I think it's extremely admirable and commendable that you write in it and read all your fans' comments. I mean who else DOES that! I'm actually quite obsessed with Scrubs. I just want to say Kudos and Thanks for giving us the best show on television. That J.D. is somethin else. His best line is "Shower shorts: For the man who has nothing to hide. But still wants to." Some nights I go to bed in MY favorite pair of shower shorts wishing that I might become Doctor John Dorian for just one day. I don't have a big stuffed dog, but I do have a little stuffed elephant named Rowdy that I sleep with in the hopes of us one day making the spectacular overnight transformation together. Hasn't worked yet, but I will not give up. I can't wait till next Tuesday, WHAT is gonna happen with Turk and Carla?!?

wooohooo,
top 100!!!

hey zach,
i heard rumors, that nbc ordered at least 5 more episodes? please tell it's true! as far as donald faison is consirned i say "payback is a biatch" and u should wait and wait and wait until the antizipation is killing him.... and than you wait a little longer and punk the hell out of him.
i wouldn't go for destroying something that belongs to him, i'd say it has to be really imbaressing.
Good luck with all that and post again! U comeing to GErmany any time soon?

Posted by: herman the german | Mar 22, 2005 2:56:12 AM

I'm in Australia so I probably won't get to see this Punk'd episode until 2008 but I wait in anticipation.

ps. You seem to have stellar taste when it comes to music.

pps. goodluck with everything and keep writing because it makes many people (myself included) smile.

Posted by: kaz | Mar 22, 2005 3:04:00 AM

under 100, now that's a record. Wow, you're really getting to be very directorial. really weird adjective. I didn't get to see the punk'd!..aw. As for revenge tactics, what would be really funny is to follow him to a really nice restaurant and then have the waiters and chefs come out panicked because they accidentally gave him some really bad salmon or something and it's poisoned and to have them call an ambulance and see how sick his mind will trick him into feeling.

Posted by: taylor | Mar 22, 2005 3:04:04 AM

Lori McKenna is amazing.
some of her stuff is so beautiful it brings me to tears. Just like Sigur Ros.

do you listen to Sigur Ros?

if not......you should!!!! they are icelandic (like bjork!! lol) and are...ah the most amazing music i have ever heard.

frick on a stick with a brick (my new saying...thanks to you guys at scrubs!! haha) i didn't watch Punk'd. ah.

well....i have pretty excited because my birthday is June 25th....and the Scrubs DVD is coming out 1 month before hand...so then it will be cheaper cause its been a month. so i'm excited. haha.

well have a great day Zach...and do not apologize for not being funny. we love you funny...or not funny.

oh and one more thing.

there is this guy. he is 1st year in college. and he comes back everyday to Musical Practice (we are doing Into the Woods! woot woot) and he remindes me SOOOOOOOO much of you. His laugh...his voice...and his silliness. its soo amazing. and i love it cause i get to see a version of Zach Braff every day!!

Like i said before...i was hoping beyond hopes that you would beat up the kid. It would be the single funniest thing in the world.

You've got to get him back...you've got to get him back really really good.

And i'm excited about the arrested development thing. It's in my top 3 shows right now...that's very impressive for me.

"what do you expect mother, i'm half machine!"

oh man.

Damn, you're getting around! You're leaving your directing mark everywhere now a days. Excellent.

Posted by: Shannon | Mar 22, 2005 3:43:18 AM

Oy

so aggro...

Kinda stunned me.

It's so interesting that you came to be beloved by so many through the portrayal of a character (you created) who never gets angry. (Your sweet side?).
So different than the unguarded, unprecedented, UNCONTROLLED side of you that reared it's head recently on Punk'd.

Of course, we are all varied, and it is fascinating to watch people who are behaving in an unselfconcious way, but gee... sadly suprised to see it get to that boiling of a point. "I'm not gonna hit him" I believe you had to say.

Art is about control, and you had none in this instance, (well, I suppose you signed a release). But please know that even though a rather dark/disappointing side of you was revealed, it's good to share the truth -
You're in a new dimension now.
You're a public figure - and you have choices. Don't give in to just being another boring half-real, image-spewing, soul-crushed, "dime a dozen" mouthpiece. (See: other succesful TV actors).

Because of what you revealed in Garden State, you're maneuvering on a different level now, my dear.
It takes a brave man to show us everything, and this might take a lifetime of effort and hard work to try and achieve, but Kudos to Faison in this instance, because you know what? This occaision/his participation pushed you away from all that well-lit PR bullshit, (choke, enough already), and closer to the Truth! The Point!
In other words, by keeping it real, in this case, I believe you're being encouraged to be REAL. Again. A real person. With real emotions. And consequently, hopefully, a real artist! (Punk'd ain't art, but close observance of the many varied sides of humanity can be).

Seems like a good time to take a break from the mill and breathe some fresh air - (O Canada!).

With love and hope for understanding,

Adele H

Sounds like you’ve got as many projects going as humanly possible. That’s great, in the future you’ll be able to look back on this time have a mass of stuff to count for it. I’m aspiring to that, when my lazy-self doesn’t get in the way. Oh, and by the way, I have some questions for you, just ramdom things that I’ve wanted to ask (nothing too serious), is there a good (or proper place) to go about it? Should I email or mail someone who mails or emails someone who then mentions to someone who mails or emails someone who mentions it to you over drinks? Ha, well that seems to be the way things work but I’d like to know if there’s a better way, or which avenue that you would send me down. Thanks.

Posted by: Claudia | Mar 22, 2005 3:53:04 AM

thanks for pointing out that this is the only place where you post. there was a person on livejournal pretending to be you... but people still continue to comment on the livejournal feed assuming that you read it despite the note from every fifth commenter that you do not in fact read it.
i think people just really really hope to have some contact with you. i find this more than a little scary... but then i got excited when i IMed dave mordal from last comic standing. (he wasn't very interesting to talk to.)
anyway, garden state is a great movie. it made me sob uncontrollably. i really related to that whole wanting-to-feel-again thing.
scrubs is good too. i really liked the episode where J.D. lost both girls while trying to decide which he wanted.
and you seem pretty cool. but i have to keep in mind that you are a person, and thus have flaws. so, you can't be perfect. still, you seem like you would be cool to hang out with.
do you like video games? skee-ball? pinball? i can't find any good arcades in jersey.

Hi Zach,

First time posting here... First of all, I loved Garden State--interesting dialogue, endearing characters, some great photography...

Secondly, I'm in Montreal, and, if you've never been here before, you'll probably like it. I'm from Toronto. I came here in 1990 to do a Master's degree in Translation (French, German, Spanish, Italian and English) and never left. Even married a French man (also a translator)... Actually, I fell in love with the city first, decided to stay, and then I met my husband, which just clinched the deal.

Yes, you have to see Old Montreal, Notre-Dame (where Celine Dion was married, woo-hoo), and some of the touristy areas, but there's some other gems... St. Joseph's Oratory is a must... it's modelled after the Sacre-Coeur in Paris, and provides an amazing view of the city. As well, right beside it, and something few people seem to know, is a lovely little park... kind of an oasis in the city.
If you go to the Olympic Stadium, which also has an amazing view of the city, you have to visit the Biodome... if you like animals that is. The Biodome is one-of-a-kind as a zoo... Five distinct ecosystems, so you feel like you're really in the Amazon jungle or in the Arctic. Most of the animals come out in late afternoon, early evening.

Anyway, cheers, I'm sure you'll have a great time... and if you need a tour guide, I'd be more than happy. ;)

oh, and do you find it annoying when people post just to say that they have posted comment number (whatever)? it would be nice if people would just post about your entry rather than post about posting, but this is the internet. and i suppose if you want to get noticed you should be near the top of the 1000+ comment pile rather than near the bottom.

Man, Punk'd was the best. You really flipped on that kid. He was about to get a beat down. That kid actor looked soooo scared. Probably do the same here but at least I wouldn't have it on TV. Best of Luck getting Donald back. I'm sure he's watching your every move!

hi! Montreal is a fantastic city (the best of canada, it's like a mini french speaking NYC(although there is a large english speaking population as well))... great to visit especially in the summer, and spring too i guess... just not in winter when it is freezing (although it's till beautiful covered in snow).

I am SO freaking excited that you're going to be directing the Gavin DeGraw video! I found out about him about two years ago and he's just brilliant. Chariot was the first song I ever heard of his, so it's sorta special, hehe. I'm sure you'll do a smashing job with the video and I can't wait to see it!!

Oh well.

There's like nine bazillion comments here, and I am essentially pissing into the ocean, but here I go anyway.

I, too, am from Jersey (Exit 6, represent!) and ever since my dad restored that '86 Camaro for my 16th birthday in 1992, I have known that cars are sacred. Both the '86 Camaro and my 6 inch bangs are gone, but the vehicle over-protection remains. I'm very conscious of people near my car and I drive a Saturn, for Christ's sake.

Posted by: Danielle | Mar 22, 2005 5:02:45 AM

All the practical jokes I know are far too cruel for Don. They're more like evil done to cheating ex-boyfriend moves. (VISINE in the beverage of your choice causes diarrhea for 24 hours...and there's always the sugar in the gas tank causing engine to seize move....see I told you...most cruel indeed)

Glad that SCRUBS has back to back episodes tonight...

WARNING!!

Bizarre fictional science experiment

1 part Zach Braff + 2parts Sean Penn = Patrick Dempsey

at least in the looks department.....he's got that new show "Grey's Anatomy" coning out on the 27th and I saw an ad for the show. I said to my girlfriend "hey, doesn't Patrick Dempsey look like if Sean Penn and Zach Braff had a baby?"

She almost spit out the Starbucks.

Much more realistic looking than Conan's "if they mated"

My Seder invite still stands.

Much Love to the Punk'd one-

i'm commenting before it hits 150! neat!
you know you've made it when you've been punk'd by ashton. (punk'd by a friend or family member or student loan officer doesn't count,)
here are a list of things to enjoy or avoid:
1. enjoy the new release by NIN, "the hand that feeds"
2. don't ever, ever watch the movie "boogeyman"
3. mentally prepare yourself for turning 30 (as i am) and wonder why we aren't in space cars yet, b/c by 30, we were supposed to be in space cars and have our own robots. and be able to speak to people using only our minds. yeah, we got the shaft.
that's all i have for now. and i have to go to work now. any movie recommendations?

Montreal is fantastic, especially in the spring. Think a north american version of Paris. Places to visit: The Biodome, Mt.Royal (superb view of city, and on a clear day, the states), GoGo on St.Laurent (Bar with retro decor and music, plus the best cocktails around), Avenue on Rue Mount Royal does superb breakfasts and poutine(quebec 'delicacy').

Enjoy our little city!

Zach,
Good luck on revenge. Remember, it's best served cold.

I can't wait to see the video. Gavin DeGraw is very talented and I love when two talented artists collaborate on a project making it impressive and memorable. Thank you for that.

Hey Zach,

What's the deal? Donald Faison doesn't read your blog? He's gonna see the prank coming. Anyway, cool punk episode, it's cool to see you guys dress and drink cheap beers just like us. Oh, and if you're gonna see the flop with an ace, make sure you have at least a 10 kicker.

Hey Zach.

Thanks for clearing up the Fletch rumors, because I was curious about that. I heard it was going to be Jason Lee for so long, and then out of nowhere, I start hearing your name. Not that I don't think you wouldn't be fantastic. In all honesty, I would be pleased as punch if either of you played the part.

Thanks so much for pimping Gavin. He is a great musician, and a fantastic guy. I'm really excited that his music is starting to take off, and glad you're directing the video. "Chariot" is one of my favorites of his.

Do you listen to much music on your computer? If so, it would be super keen if you'd get an Audioscrobbler account ( http://audioscrobbler.com ). I know I'm not the only person who would be interested in knowing what you're listening to.

Belated congratulations on the Grammy. I was, and continue to be, tickled for you. You deserved it.

I have a hard time watching Kenny the cop without gagging since that terrible, awful, no good (and I don;t mean bad-just hard to watch) Six Feet Under episode.

Wait that was him, right? I'm not just transfering my delusions onto poor unsuspecting Kenny the cop?

Man, now I'm going to have to watch Punk'd, Crap.

i love arrested development and that episode will air the day after my birthday. happy bday to me!

I missed punked but will look for the rerun for sure.

As for the practical joke her's some thoughts.
1) He;ll be expecting something from you. I'd get in touch with Breckin Meyer and/or Seth Green. They're friends I believe for awhile now and should have some inside info.
2) two choices, either be nice and classy and get him back on punkd. Or be vicious and do it off camera, Either way it should be good.

It's hard to come up with any good ideas since I don't actually know Donald Faison but I would say his vehicle should be the target since it was yours you got. So the only thing I can think of is pick a day where you are crazy mad busy on set shooting and Donald would be on set non stop. Rent a vehicle that is exactly like his. Get his vehicle towed to a safe place and switch the license plates with the rental. I'm guessing he has a remote lock on it. Let him try to figure out why he can't get in. Then have some PA or something show up with the right keys, get in and drive off.

that's phase one. Now during the day have someone who looks like donald (if at all possible, if not no worries) driving around ih his car. Have it filled with blow up love dolls and have one of those magnets on the car that you can order. The magnet should have a big picture of Donald in his scrubs costume and read "Donald Faison's Love Bus". Have the person drive it to Vegas or at least around LA with a video Camera getting people to say hi to me and have various poses with the dolls. Bonus points if you can find someone to do a great "Nam" rant while talking sweetly to a doll. Have the person be back by the end of shooting and give you the tape. let Donald Faison find the vehicle full of dolls etc. Let him think that's the end of the joke. Take the tape, do some editing and I'm sure you can find an opportune time to show everyone on set the video.

that's the best I can come up with right now.
Cheers on the revenge plan mate,
Scotty C

Gavin Degraw came to UConn a few weeks ago and he was really amazing! I agree with you, he will be around for a long time!! I missed scrubs last week and my assface roomate didn't tape it like i asked. i'm still pissed about that, a whole week later. Anyway good luck with everything, seems like you have a lot on your plate. I feel ahead of the times, mostly because i've known about you from scrubs WAY before all this started to happen. my brother was in med school when scrubs first aired, and he would always call me to turn it on because he thought it was a funny version of his actual life. Anyway... off to class. Rock on Braff

Posted by: Tess | Mar 22, 2005 5:57:41 AM

Man I wish I could have seen that Punk'd. I'll have to catch it when it airs again. I don't really have much to say because I'm at work and I'm just exhausted. I was cutting my dogs nails this morning (it was long over due) and I cut them too short. So they started to bleed all over. I almost called in but I was afraid my co-workers would say that I had an interview to look for another job. So at last I am here at work. What it is like to not have a steady 9-5 job? I wonder. I've written this before but I love the Garden State Soundtrack. It is so awesome. I think I listen to it about once a week still. Thanks for making the greatest soundtrack. You truly amaze me.

Hey,
You are going to love Montreal! Great city. I could recommend so great bars and pubs bit you'd have to email me to get them. heehee. Your taste in music is great. Thanks for the recommendations. Haven't been disappointed yet. So the TV Guide here in Canada this week had an article about shows that are on the verge of cancellation and Arrested Developement was on the cover but so was Scrubs!! However when you read further it just talked about how Scrubs is such a good show but hasn't "found" its Audience yet. AD was really funny this week. Can't wait to see the episode with you on it. Your great.

Take good care of your car!

There is a sick humor in Punk'd but I must admit I was laughing pretty hard at your episode. I think the majority of people would react the same way. I imagine your buddy Donald is awaiting your revenge.

I am sad to hear only 3 more episodes of Scrubs are left to be shot. It has been a great season!

Take care.

Posted by: Mel | Mar 22, 2005 6:09:37 AM

you're funny even when you're not funny so no worries :)

also, i toootally missed that episode of punk'd! i keep hearing about it though and i shall find a way to watch it. part of me wants to be a celebrity ONLY so i can be punk'd and seek revenge....

or i suppose i could be on punk'd as someone who does the punk'ng in the first place....

and i'm putting too much thought into this. laterz!

Zach!!!! What the fuzzy??!!! I heard you had been 'punked'. How dare they ... damn Yankees!! (don't know what that means, but felt it sounded appropriate). We don't get that show downunder (not on free-to-air, anyway), but hopefully one day I can get my hands on a copy of it. Add to that woe, the tv channel (7) that USED to show Scrubs and Arrested Development have decided not to screen them anymore because they (supposedly) didn't rate. So they replace them with other shows that don't rate more, plus, are crappy.

Zach, thanks again for posting .... you sound super-busy as ever -- get some sleep. Don't you ever say to yourself 'stop the world I wanna get off'?

Later days, Angela

Best Prank Ever:
Hanging a VW Bug above the school swimming pool. Awesome. Best part was: the physics teacher was in on it. It always pays to have a physicist on your side. <-- That is advice for life.

Good luck on the shows, can't say I watch TV...um...ever. But, I'm sure it'll go well.

Punk'd was hilarious. Ashton Kutcher is real funny, I thought you were going to punch that little kid in the face. I have it saved on TiVo now so anytime I need a laugh I can just turn that on. I'm from Jersey, not a car freak myself but my best friend and his dad is, if someone did that to
