Spooning an Eagle

Hello friends!

Since we last spoke I won a Grammy and an Independent Spirit award. Yes it's true, I am now "Grammy award winning actor Zach Braff." Pretty funny, huh? The spirit awards were very cool. I got to see so many actors and directors I look up to. This is all very new to me, so I'm very star struck by people like Robin Williams. (Who told me he was a big fan of the movie.) I tried sleeping next to the trophy, but it has sharp edges and the eagle's talons began to chafe my belly.

The big news this week is that I directed tomorrow night's episode of Scrubs. (It airs Tuesday night on NBC at 9:00 pm pacific.) Please check it out; I'm really proud of how it turned out. Heather Graham is back and the episode's got music by my two favorite new musicians and friends, Cary Brothers and Joshua Radin.

Thanks to you all for getting the word out on the charity auction; Nat's wardrobe went for over $3000 and the gas nozzle went for over $1000. It all goes straight to tsunami relief, so it was a great cause.

Dynamite song: "Waiting on an Angel" Ben Harper
Dynamite joke: Why was Piglet looking in the toilet? He was looking for Pooh.
Dynamite explosive: Dynamite.
Dynamite strategy for tic tac toe: x,x,x

Peace and Love,

Zachary Braff D.D.S.

Well done!!! Congrats on the much deserved awards.

Posted by: Shelbi | Feb 28, 2005 3:21:14 PM

Congrats on all of your recent accolades. You deserve it...much like you deserve the role of Fletch in Kevin Smith's "Fletch Won." He mentioned that you were his personal choice on his website message board. I think you would bring respect and class to Gregory MacDonald's literary character in a way that Chevy Chase couldn't, though he was good in a different non-book Fletch kind of way. Hope it works out somehow.

I love Robin Williams. The man can not control himself, and that always makes for good TV.

Peace, Zach

Thanks for coming around and talking to us again.

Hey Zach,
I haven't posted in a while -was really happy to hear you won that grammy, it was well deserved. I listen to the soundtrack constantly to the point where my roommate knows all the words by osmosis. I keep showing the movie to anyone I can and I pick up new things with each viewing

Congratulation on the awards!! You definitely deserve all awards you get! I can't wait for the new Scrubs coming out...it sounds awesome since it is directed by you. I've never posted on here so I think i should give you major props for Garden State the movie and soundtrack. The movie was incredibly moving and funny and the soundtrack never gets old! You might just be the next Spielberg! Good luck in the future! Oh and if you've never heard of these bands i'd definitely recommend Muse and Jem.

i wish triumph the insult comic dog made fun of you, he's bloody hilarious. it's all out of love, don't worry. he called green day "the less queer blink 182." speaking of green day, listen to "jesus of suburbia." just listen to the whole bloody cd, man, it's brilliant.

Oh...my Zachie Darling,

Congrats Lover! I always knew you had it in you....(now, how do I get you in me?)

So. Talons and chafing, huh? Interesting. I'm sure there's some sort of analysis to be done here, but I'm just going to sit here with a big stupid grin on my face and think of you naked with your big ol' trophy......the one you have hanging from your neck (of course!).

Zach's got some BLING!! My brutha! *high five*

Can't wait to see you tomorrow. Better get the TV dusted so my allergies won't bother me when I'm making out with your TV self. You know...some nights you're ALL over the screen. Can't tell you how many times I've ended up kissing someone else! You little rascal!

Sounding desperate am I? Sounding like a big PERV? Must be the hormones...it's instinctual you know....the desire to reproduce with the finest specimen. Is it my fault that YOU ARE THAT SPECIMEN? I know it's not your fault either...Damn that Zeus! ;)

I heard about the Grammy! The soundtrack DEFINITELY deserved it. It introduced me to The Shins, so it wins at everything.

That joke is so immature it's hilarious. XD If most of the people I know didn't read this, I'd tell it to them, but if I tried, they'd be all, "Wow, you are so lame, I totally read that on Zach's blog!"

Now, I was on my way to Google when I noticed you'd updated. I...can't actually remember what I was supposed to look up. Curses.

Gosh its nice to have you back! The piglet joke reminds me of the UCB skit where the girl says "and now new pooh-tang, the drink for small yellow bears".

Congrats on the awards, and know that Million Dollar Baby is no comparison to GS in anyone under 30s eyes. Natalie got ripped off at the oscars, Closer is 'dynamite'.

Here is a song for you to try, Bryan Played Guitar by Chuck Coleman, you can download the MP3 for free on amazon.com,check it out, I am sure you will enjoy.

Oh, and just so it isn't all compliments on here, boourns on the not putting Alexi Murdoch on the soundtrack, Orange Sky is important to the movie, and should have been on the soundtrack. But I guess what do I know... you're the one with the grammy!

Tell your brother Joshua he is funnier than you even though less recognized for it... oops did I say that... ;)

I swear it will taste just like grape jelly.

Oh, maybe you have already used these phrases???

Just teasing. Congrats on every thing. Enjoy the ride. :)

Posted by: sockgirlie | Feb 28, 2005 3:38:18 PM

Congrats on the Emmy & the Independent! Both well deserved. Every time I watch Garden State I'm amazed at the balance you pulled off staring and directing the film. I've directed theatre before and I can't imagine being able to pull off the acting and directing at the same time.
Thanks for updating this blog. I've been reading it since before the film came out and it constantly proves to be a source of information and enterntainment. Oh, and thanks for "keepin' it real." You're an inspiration.

Congrats on the wins. This is my first time posting, and I just wanted to tell you that your movie has given me a new outlook on life. I think I learned that it's easy to be depressed and to let people bring you down, but it's much more beneficial to appreciate every little aspect of life and not take things so seriously. Life is so short and we should all worry very little and appreciate a lot! It will all work out in the end. Thanks so much!

Posted by: Kristen | Feb 28, 2005 3:38:53 PM

Hey, Zach. I just want to say that you are one of my favorite actors in the entire world. I am a NC girl heading to LA in the next couple of months to try to pursue my dream of acting. I'm really scared and nervous, and was just wondering do you have any words of wisdom to offer a gal like me? Also, a shot in the dark, but it's been a wish of mine to be on SCRUBS maybe as an extra or some bit part, but to just be there. Is there a way I can do that:)? And, congrats on the Grammy and Independent Spirit awards! You deserve to be recognized for all the goodness you have done!!!! Well, I see you and all that you've done and it gives me hope to try for my dreams and to maybe one day get to experience what you have. Maybe I'll even get to shake hands with you one day! That would be cool:-) Thank-you for just being you!

Hi Zach - Just wanted to let you know that I'm a 33-year old married woman (probably not in the target demographic) who loved your movie. I have to say that it just really hit that place in my heart that most movies miss by a longshot. The soundtrack is also awesome. I listen to it while I'm cooking dinner. also come to this website way more than I should and read all of your posts. That's so not me!

"Grammy award winning actor Zach Braff" makes you sound like one of those actor/singners that are every where these days (see Jenny from the BLOCK etc.) I think you should definetely consider starting a signing carreer. I would buy your CD :)

Zach. This movie is like another form of religion! The soundtrack should be the soundtrack to my new life! I watched the 30 or so minutes of the making of the film and it makes me want to follow my dreams to be a direector!
Keep up the good work, I don't know what I'd do without it!
You should release a CD compelation....randomly. People would buy it, too. I know I would!
Just call it, "Zach." Everyone'll love it, I promise!

You're listening to Ben Harper? I knew you had excellent taste. You've changed mine quite a bit. In return - if you're ever in Tampa, I know a local band you might like.

Congratulations on the Grammy - you deserved a hell of a lot more than that.

Dear Zach Braff:
Instead of saying questionably personal things and using casual slang that implies we are friendly-like, I will just say this: you are my hero because of 1) Garden State 2) You told a potty joke that involved Piglet, and 3) A couple weeks ago on Scrubs you wore a big red clock on a string around your neck. Thank you for being amazing, the world needs more white men who aren't afraid to dance around.

Posted by: M | Feb 28, 2005 3:51:52 PM

Hey Zach~ I was so proud when I heard you got the Grammy. I was jumping up and down.

I will definitely check out tomorrow's Scrubs. It's going to be wonderful.

And while we are throwing around song suggestions...have yout ever heard Louis XIV's "God Killed the Queen"? Check them out if you haven't!

Hope your doing well.

Posted by: amy | Feb 28, 2005 3:59:00 PM

Congrats on the Grammy. As a little girl I had this dream of winnning a Grammy, Oscar, and a Tony. Considering I didn't really want to be an actor or a recording artist it would have been really hard for me to do that.

Anyways, I've got some great music for you if you haven't heard of it already:

Benzos - they're a NYC club band. You can't get their cd yet (it's coming out in April), but I'd check out their website. http://benzosmusic.com

The Music Lovers - an English band that's kind of calm and poppy with hints of 60s themes thrown in. You can get their EP in the states, but the full length you can find here. That's why Amazon is amazing.

And then if you haven't already heard of Doves (etherial pop rock) or The Futureheads (The Clash if they had tried to be a pop rock band), I highly recommend them as well.

Also, I know you're probably starting to get bored with hearing this, but I watched Garden State again this weekend and I was reminded of why it's one of my favorite movies. It also really reminds me of my boyfriend and I, but I guess it's really just the fairy tale situation every man and woman wants to find themselves in. You capture the essence of the human condition really well in your writing. I'm looking foward to your next (no pressure or anything).

Hey Zach!
It's good to hear from you again. Congratulations on the Grammy and Independent Spirit Award! You definantly deserve them. The Garden State soundtrack is sooo amazing. And I'll also be watching Scrubs tommorrow! Can't wait.

Watched the Spirit Awards, I truly enjoy your enthusiasm! Absolutely loved Garden State and since this jersey girl married a jersey boy I can relate to many of the scenes, so earthy! I found so much humor in them! Hey, do you miss any jersey foods? I wonder if you can get a good pastrami on rye in LA? lol
Keep up the good work Jersey Boy! { This Mom in NJ}

I can think of no better person for these two awards to be given to. Besides recognizing the great state of New Jersey (gotta love anyone who does that!), you made a film (and a soundtrack) whose quality has blown me away. Congratulations!

Posted by: Lauren | Feb 28, 2005 4:00:49 PM

I saw you recieve your Spirit award, I was so happy for you. You looked so excited to be up on stage! I'm looking forward to tomorrow night's Scrubs because the name of it is "My Best Laid Plans", and if I'm not mistaken, that comes from the poem "To a Mouse", which I just read in my English class. Now that I know you directed it, I'm even more excited! Congrats on the awards.

Posted by: Sara | Feb 28, 2005 4:01:00 PM

Coolest thing ever (well maybe not ever, but maybe for the day) would be if you made a list of top songs - they have celebrity playlists on iTunes... but not you, but I'd enjoy the hookup

Artist I reccomend: The Profits. Listen to 'Sex at Six' and 'Cloud Nine' if you get the chance - I think you'd like them.

Posted by: Carolyn | Feb 28, 2005 4:02:55 PM

I am so glad the auctions went so well! And congrats on the 2 awards! I have always wanted to win a Grammy...I am sure it is one of the reasons I am studying Music Merchandising (a mixture of music classes and business classes) at college. It is all preparing me for a career in music and some day my very own Grammy. Well, just wanted to say how happy I am for you and I wish you only the best!...Oh, and I will definitely be watching Scrubs tomorrow!

Posted by: Danielle | Feb 28, 2005 4:04:26 PM

hey mr. braff,

this might be lost in the throngs (i love saying that word) of all the comments you get but congratulations on your awards. garden state is an awesome movie and i actually did a blog post relating to some quotes from the movie a few weeks ago.

anyway, looking forward to new updates. funny though that i just found out about this site just today, as i was perusing sites to where i could start a new blog site and now i'm commenting. i don't do it on the first date so to speak. and considering you're a dude. =)

good luck.

Posted by: Ronnie | Feb 28, 2005 4:04:49 PM

Congrats, man, you really deserve it. :) And I can't wait to see Scrubs. I get home from work tomorrow just in time to see but just in case something prevents me from making it to the TV I'm already DVRing it.

And I loooooove Cary Brothers, I can't wait! I swear, we have the exact same taste in music, dude...

Posted by: Allison | Feb 28, 2005 4:06:39 PM

The Grammy is well deserved. As to "Spooning the Eagle" I think it's ok...as long as you don't get caught.

Here's well wishes for a happy March.

Posted by: Emily | Feb 28, 2005 4:06:51 PM

Congrats mate.
How much of a trip must this be for you! thousands of people writing to you telling you how much they like you and your work.. Must be pretty comforting.
I really appreciated you introducing me to some choice new artists like joshua and cary. I had them shipped out a while ago. Some mighty fine triangle playing..
If you're not already on the float you should jump onto Doves from GB and some rad Aussie bands like The Avalanches, Silverchair, The Beautiful Girls, Evermore and if you're into Blues and Roots, you HAVE to get your grubbies on some John Butler Trio..
You'll thank me.. maybe.
Later Gator.

Zach--

So here I was about to post something about the awesome awesomeness of your Grammy win (which I, alas, missed), but I just read about Thievery Corporation's Pam Bricker committing suicide and it sort of, you know. Seemed like a rather cruel fucking irony. Was wondering if you'd heard anything.

Because that sucks.

Posted by: Charlotte | Feb 28, 2005 4:09:27 PM

Congrats on the awards my friend!
Joshua Radin kicks ass.. I cant stop playing his CD. I got all the people in my hallway of my apartment to start listening to him.

I'm definitely going to check the Scrubs episode. I just recently started watching it, and I have it so it is SO awesome. I am now obsessed, I still have to decide if it's good or bad.. but I'm going to go with good right now.

And damnit, I wish I had had $1,000. And congrats on the grammy and the Independent Spirit award!

Posted by: Maria | Feb 28, 2005 4:10:34 PM

zach you are awesome
i wish i could be more like jd.
I already am a little like him as in i love Sanford and Son and the other shows he talks about.
But i think Scrubs is actually going to get me to finally start doing something with my life like going to college.
Anyway not to bore you but the only band ive been able to listen to for awhile is Bright Eyes. Conor Oberst is just amazing. The songs are as if i would write them if i could. You should check them out if you havent. Also And You Will Know By The Trail Of Dead and Razorlight are pretty good with their new albums.
Hope to read more of your thoughts and comments
Peace ZB

Hi Ho Zach!
Yay an episode of Scrubs created with your flawless handiwork! ^_^ I promise I'll tape it and watch it 9 bajillion times in a row. How is "the last kiss" coming along? What is the premis for it? I'm dying to know! lol heres a funny joke that was floating around work the other day:

What do you call cheese thats not yours?

<3 the soundtrack. i got me to like the Shins.

if you haven't, check out Damien Rice, Rilo Kiley and Interpol. great music, i know you'd appreciate it.

You never fail to win my heart. I watched Garden State again last night, for about the zillionth time. I think it's safe to say that movie has changed my life. You are one of the funniest, most talented, good-looking men out there. Props to being awesome on Scrubs as well. I absolutely LOVE your taste in music (from what i've heard so far). You're amazing. Keep it coming.

"Garden State" has meant a lot to me personally - the attention is much deserved. In fact, it deserves much MORE attention. Congratulations on all the awards.

And thanks for having great taste in music.

LOVE the joke. Cracked me up.

Hey, we're really getting into the swing of routinely watching Scrubs. I lamented to my husband that it's not an hour long, but almost instantly came to the conclusion that it's probably next to impossible to maintain a sitcom for an hour long per episode. (Just wanna see more of your cute face!)

And now, I'm feeling a tad dorkish...

Anyways i want to say hi, hows it going? hope you get enough sleep zach. i doubt your fans will hate you for sleeping. i would'nt. see if i dont get enough sleep i get these massive headaches and end up taking unnecessary drugs to get rid of a problem that could be solved with sleep. so take a load off. oh and that joke was pretty good. heres one for animal lovers:

How do you know when it's raining cats and dogs?- When you step in a poodle.

Well i thought it was cute. i geuss i will go. You should get some sleep. you're giving me a headache.

watching you soon.

Congratulations on the awards! Especially on the Independent Spirit Award, which is much more relevant and cool than those other movie awards. It's nice to see your talent being recognized. And even better that your growing success hasn't pulled you away from your fans, or diminished your appreciation and support of good music.

Recommended: Damien Rice, Flogging Molly, The Dresden Dolls, Regina Spektor, Alexi Murdoch, Grant Lee Buffalo, The Lucksmiths, Shivaree, Mirah, and Amy Correia.

Oh, and Chet Baker, Nina Simone, and Billie Holiday. They never go out of style.

Hi Zach. I've been watching Scrubs since day one, and of course I'm a big fan of Garden State! too grew up in New Jersey - Tenafly, Bergen County, and was born in Patterson on April 8th, 1975 - only 2 short days after you!
I used the song "New Slang" in a "short" I made from my digital camera back when the album was first released - it's such a beautiful song! Keep up the amazing work - I will always tune in for whatever you do!

I'm sure I'm not the only one who was extremely disappointed Garden State was not nominated for anything, Oscar-wise. It certainly deserved it.

Congrats on the awards and tomorrow's episode! Too bad I'll be flying somewhere over the midwest and will be unable to see it. I shall beg everyone I know to Tivo it for me, whether they own a Tivo or not.

Peace, love and squeaky toys from me and all the humpback whales here in Hawaii,

PS- If you post the measurements of the Grammy, I would be happy to sew you a cozy for it to make snuggling less dangerous.

Zach,
I was so excited that you won the Grammy! I swear it's the greatest soundtrack EVER! Seriously, people I know who haven't even seen the movie heard about it and went out and bought it. Most soundtracks have a few great songs and the rest are just okay...but this one has 13 amazing songs! I appreciate all your hard work and dedication.

I can't wait for tomorrows episode of Scrubs. Tues night has become one of the best nights for TV.

Awesome job and congrats again!

Posted by: lo jack | Feb 28, 2005 4:32:48 PM

Hey Zach...just reading through the comments and came across one from 'M'...and it got me thinking. Are you insulted by people (mostly me) "saying questionably personal things and using casual slang that implies we are friendly-like"? Just wondering.

I thought we (the fans) were here to show you the love. Never been any gripes before. Maybe the fella that said that is just jealous that he doesn't have you on the brain like everyone else here. It's hard to admit that we don't "know" you when you're hanging out in our thoughts day in and day out.

AnyWhoo...Let me know what's appropriate so I don't send you running, okay? Friend?

xoxo

Did that make you smile?
Have a great day Zach.

Hey Zach! Congrats on everything! I was ecstatic when I heard the news. I look forward to watching Scrubs as well.

I just got my wisdom teeth out. I only got the bottom two removed, so my face is shaped like a box. I was thinking SpongeBob Squarepants would totally go for me if he wasn't gay... Because sponges can be gay apparently.

Take care!

Posted by: Sandi | Feb 28, 2005 4:33:54 PM

Okay, so congrats again on BOTH awards. That's truly amazing that Robin Williams would say something like that. I really look up to him as well.

Yey! You directed Scrubs again!!! I must NOT miss this one (though I haven't missed one this season). I think that the only way I would miss an ep is if I died (god forbid).

I found a band that I thought you might want to check out. They're an Indie band, and their name is "the Redwalls." They're really good, and they might be your "scene."

Well, I must go because I seem to be babbling just a teeny bit.

And back at you with the Pooh. (that sounded way better in my head)

Posted by: Anja | Feb 28, 2005 4:38:16 PM

Last night I had a dream that I was long-lost soulmates with Zach Braff. I woke up, blurry-eyed and confused, thinking "No one will ever believe me that I know Zach Braff! They'll never believe me!!!" After a few minutes of rubbing my eyes and pulling my hair out of my face, I realized, "Shit. I don't know Zach Braff."
It was horrible.
It's like in 6th grade when I woke up from a dream where I was dating Johnathan Taylor Thomas.
Crushing disappointment.

PS: I would second the above recommendation to check out Damien Rice and Mirah, but also Belle & Sebastian, All-Time Quarterback, Elliott Smith(duh), Interpol, Jets to Brazil, Little Champions, etc. etc.. And of course, pay special attention to Radiohead and even more to my favorite boy, Bob Dylan.

And now I wonder if after going through my iPod to write that...does Zach Braff actually read this?

If so,
Wanna be soulmates?

Posted by: Melissa | Feb 28, 2005 4:40:55 PM

This weekend I was rooming with some people who I had never met before in my life, and at first it was kind of awkward. Prolonged silences while we tried to think of the next conversation started and all that. Then one of the girls started going on about how the pillow on the bed reminded her of a hot dog hat, and someone blurted out that thing Sam says about "You're so freaked out right now. You're like totally freaked out." And I was like, hey, Garden State. After that things weren't so awkward. Practically everyone I know loves your movie, or at least the soundtrack. Which sounds eeriely like quite a few of the mixtapes I've made over the years. I like it. I think I'd like you, as well. If I had never heard of you and met you at a party or some other such social gathering, I have a feeling we'd hit it off and become great friends. Thank you for your movie. I don't know if you've ever read The Fountainhead, (you should) but your movie is the type of things that give people the "courage to face a lifetime." That's never a bad thing. Good luck with real life. Oh, and around 10 pm EST on April 15th, this Jersey girl will be at her prom at the Cherry Hill Hilton dancing to Such Great Heights. Which I will have requested. Even though I'll be dancing with my ever charming and wonderful date Steve, for at least a second or so I'll think of you. That's pretty cool. So here's to that.

Great songs:
Far, far away - Wilco
Cathedrals - Jump Little Children
Jamie - Weezer
Picture in a Frame - Tom Waits

Hey hey, this has nothing to do with most of everything here but whomever asked about pastrami in L.A. needs to be directed to Langer's on S. Alvarado right now. Seriously. I am drooling right now thinking of it. No idea if you even eat meat Zach but if you do, the number 19 is a fucking delish sandwich. And if you want to send one up here to me in Oakland, I would have absolutely no problem with that.

And uh...oh yeah, congrats on Grammy and Scrubs and all the other things that are probably more important than meat in your life.

Music recommendation (just because every single person seems to put this in and hell, I work at a record label...): Ted Leo and the Pharmacists!

lots of love and xs and os,

Hey Zach. I saw that you won a grammy, and I was real happy about that. But your best awards show moment this year was at the SAG awards. I can't even remember who the actress was that won (Teri Hatcher maybe?), but when she was hugging everyone and you got up with open arms I felt like it was something right out of Scrubs.

Posted by: Andy | Feb 28, 2005 4:46:09 PM

Everyone I've told to seen Garden State absolutely loves it (even my totally sheltered roomie who doesn't swear or watch TV). I still watch at least part of it about once a week. Keep winning those awards and maybe then they can all stay on your bed like stuffed animals.

PEACE!

i am the unofficial spokesman for garden state. i work at a video store, and GS is the frist suggestion i offer. then second is "the United States of Leland." have you seen it? it blew my mind. anyway, bravo mr. braff

Posted by: samantha | Feb 28, 2005 4:50:50 PM

Zach, you turned me into a geeky fan girl that doesn't know how to speak properly when I saw you after the Spirit Awards. (I was the girl that said something about this blog, if you remember.) Anyway, congratulations on winning those awards!

Posted by: Rachel | Feb 28, 2005 4:51:57 PM

Congratulations, twice! You are brilliant and deserve all the awards and then some. I can't wait for tomorrow's episode.

Posted by: Olivia | Feb 28, 2005 4:52:24 PM

congrats again on all your success! hey you ever rub the grammy in cary's and josh's faces? haha j/k it's cruel i know, but you must admit its a LITTLE funny =P

Posted by: Diana | Feb 28, 2005 4:52:41 PM

Congratulations on the awards, Zach! My girlfriend and I both got all excited for you and clapped in our home when you were announced as the winner at the Spirit Awards because we are so proud. Also, we are dorks.

Garden State is well deserving of both; the film was just magnificent and the soundtrack has not left my iPod playlist since I got it.

Posted by: Steven | Feb 28, 2005 4:53:09 PM

Congratulations on your awards. I actually got into a fight with a friend the other day, defending Garden State. He said it sucked, and I said he was a fool without a heart for thinking so. Then I used my favourite argument that I always use when arguing with people about film: "I'm a film scholar, I know much more about movies than you do. Therefor I am right and you are wrong". It kind of worked. :)

Anyways. Greetings from Sweden (God that sounds corny) and take care.

CONGRATS.

Dynamite person: Napoleon Dynamite.

Posted by: Jenna | Feb 28, 2005 4:57:51 PM

Hey Zach.
That's so great you won a grammy! You deserve it so much, I love that soundtrack, like ridculous. A perfect soundtrack for a perfect movie :) And, good job on the spirit award too!!! That's very awesome.

I'm proud of you, honestly.

Posted by: Ella | Feb 28, 2005 5:01:02 PM

tahahah that is a dynamite strategy, genius. CONGRATS ON THE GRAMMY WIN! You deserve it.

Can I send you my short film when it's finished? You can hire me. For free. I promise we'll get along.

Posted by: Shelby | Feb 28, 2005 5:01:50 PM

Zachary Braff, that is not the kind of joke we tell when we're outside the bathroom. Oh, wait, I'm not work--nevermind. Tell away. (And I'll probably be telling it to a couple of little muffins tomorrow, who will think it's the funniest thing they've ever heard.) Congratulations on your awards. You deserve them.

Posted by: Mary | Feb 28, 2005 5:04:08 PM

Hey Zach! I wanted to say congrats on your award. I was so happy to see you get it because I think it was well over due! Oh, by the way, I, too have a copy of the soundtrack and love it! :)

Posted by: Falky (its a nickname) | Feb 28, 2005 5:04:09 PM

Watched the Independent Spirit Awards and was excited to see you win. Congrats.

I'm going to go out on a limb and reinforce the Damien Rice recommendation, but knowing a little of your perfect music taste you have probably heard of him already.

I have a joke about squirrels and nuts...but you probably know where that is going.

Keep it real.

Posted by: Patti | Feb 28, 2005 5:04:44 PM

A friend of mine and I were discussing the idea that the Academy Awards needs a new catagory, "Best New Director," and then that you would have been nominated and would have won, too. ...For Garden State. You know?

Posted by: Kyle | Feb 28, 2005 5:04:55 PM

Heyyyy! Congrats on the awards. I found out about the Independent award the other day and I was so excited to see you won. Well deserved. I'm finally gonna be able to Scrubs tomorrow. I've missed the past two weeks because I've been too busy to watch TV (it's a bummer). If you like Ben Harper you'd definitely like Jack Johnson (new CD out March 1!!), he's fucking awesome. Here's a good joke for you:
How many ADHD kids does it take to screw in a light bulb?
Let's ride bikes!!
Anyways, take care!

Thank you soooo much for mentioning Ben Harper! He is incredible and if you ever get the chance to see him live (if you haven't already) he and the Innocent Criminals are fabulous! Congrats on the well deserved awards!!!!

Everything you do is brilliant, even your blog writing.

You always plug new artists and so far, you have a great track record....THANKS! Have you heard of the Chassidic reggae artist- Matisyahu? You should check out his debut CD, Shake off the dust....arise.

Here's a clip of him on Jimmy Kimmel Live http://www.abum.com/?show_media=3522&file_type=Movies

Congratulations are in order! All of your hard work has finally paid off, in such a tough town. Enjoy the moment and its many accolades. Take pictures. You should set up your own indy film/music production company while the tide is high. Cheers to giving your mates a nod as well. You seem like a genuine guy, but who knows what happens when you're left alone in a darkened broom closet.

You're too cool. Congrats. I loved the episode of Scrubs w/Clay Aiken - hilarious. Loved you in last week's ep when Turk and Carla elude to their marital troubles and you smiled because you were telling jokes, but then looked away because it was sad that they are having troubles. It was perfect. I can't wait to see what you have for us next.

Zach –

First-time poster. Just wanted to share how Garden State can affect real life.

A good friend of mine has a boyfriend stationed in South Korea. As she lives in the Midwest of the United States, you can imagine that this isn’t the easiest relationship to maintain. They’re a great couple, but because of the distance, they’ve been through some rough times lately.

Last week my friend got a letter from her boyfriend saying that the latest movie he saw in South Korea was Garden State. He told her as he watched, he noticed an abundance of parallels between Andrew and Sam’s meeting and their own (with some major variances, of course). He told her he was reminded what made him fall in love with her in the first place – seeing someone so vibrant and full of life.

My friend borrowed my copy of Garden State, having never seen it, and called him right after watching (6 a.m. South Korea time). They had a very long talk, and she now has a plane trip scheduled out to Korea to have a much-needed visit. She’s been happier than I’ve seen her in weeks.

So there you go.

(And just because: Big fan, love Scrubs, love the movie, you rule, yadda yadda!)

I can't believe you listen to Ben Harper.....Walk Away is another dynamite song...
Congrats on the awards, you deserve them....

Posted by: Angela | Feb 28, 2005 5:32:34 PM

You know, in a roundabout way, you're costing me $150.

See, I live near Austin, and SXSW is coming up. And I was toeing the line about whether I wanted to shell out the money for a wristband.

Then I saw Cary Brothers is playing, right before Mike Doughty. How can I not turn that down, especially since you put him on a soundtrack for me to hear and become fond of?

So any chance you will be in Austin for SXSW, be it film or music portion?

Posted by: Nicole Perdue | Feb 28, 2005 5:33:44 PM

Congrats on everything, it's well deserved. This is only the beginning, enjoy the ride for all of us. Garden State was awesome, Scrubs also awesome; funny, funny stuff. Keep posting. Catch ya next time.

Zach, I'm diggin' that dynamite joke.
I think I'll tell that one to some of my friends.

Out of curiosity, what's your favourite episode of Da Ali G Show?

Also, thank you thank you thank you, for introducing me to The Shins.
I absoloutly love them.
I am addicted.
I got my friends addicted to.

Much love,
Julie.

Hello Zach. You are amazing, and I thought - even though I am certain you have heard so many times from other individuals - that I must tell you so myself. You inspire me to be the best I possibly can artistically, intellectually, and personally. I have a personal problem though... would you ever consider marrying a 17 almost 18-year-old who has been told that she has the intelligence of someone around your own age? I swear there's something awesome in it for you. ;) But if not, that's ok. C'est la vie. Well, just wanted to tell you how much I adore and admire you and your work. Ciao.

~ Rosie B.

hey mister braff

if only the trophies were made out of cotton and silk, i bet there would be more use out of it instead of just looking at it prettily. hehe =]

oh yeah, and it's really funny browsing down the ten thousand comments here... fans can get themselves drooling over anything. haha, but it's cool. you've became a living god. hehe

okay, i'll stop taking space now =] bye bye!

Posted by: jeanie | Feb 28, 2005 5:42:54 PM

Hahaha. DDS! Okay. Not sure what you meant by that, but that's cool. Dentits love you too. Actually, I just finished dental school so I don't have any money yet. Otherwise I would have bought that gas zozzle.

Yay for Heather Graham!

Posted by: Dr. K | Feb 28, 2005 5:44:10 PM

It's creepy Zach, seriously it is. The fact that you choose Ben Harper's song when I am one of the hugest Ben Harper fans but not just that but I read the joke and that is my FAVORITE joke ever!(not kidding) I use it all the time because it's stupid, dorky, and I learned it from a 4 year old and it still made me laugh. I think it's creepy that you put 2 of my favorites together. Anyway, congrats on the awards, I know I'm not Robin Williams but I loved the movie too! :)

Posted by: Mary | Feb 28, 2005 5:47:18 PM

Yay for Zach *does a jig*.
You rock and are now my hero. Sorry, Jesus.

Posted by: Alice | Feb 28, 2005 5:47:26 PM

Zach,

Can't wait for tomorrows eppy, it'll be great! We all know that :)
And both of them with songs on the show, that's going to be *amazing*.
Congrats (to the max) with the winnings! That's so awesome. Seriously.
That Ben Harper, and Ben Harper in general, is brilliant.

Oh MAN thanks for spelling 'chafe'! It sounds stupid, but me and a friend were trying to figure it out earlier today, for some strange reason that I'd rather not talk about...

But anywhoo. Good luck with everything ^_^
